Kelley Smith plays her new album 'Flowers' with The LaPlants, opened by the Mike Munson Trio, at The Cedar Cultural Center.
Kelley Smith brings her new album Flowers to The Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, January 8, 2027. She's joined on stage by The LaPlants—Jed and Ariana LaPlant of Wild Horses and Emily LaPlant of LaPlant Road—with the Mike Munson Trio opening the night.
Smith is a Northern Minnesota songwriter who released her debut, Moon Child, in 2022 when she was 40 and a mother of four. Flowers came out November 6, 2026, on Liatris Records, and she describes songwriting as a way to disentangle herself. She's as much an instrumentalist as a singer, and she's collaborated with Charlie Parr, Kelly Hunt, Wild Horses, Mike Munson, Sarah Morris and Dave Simonett.
The Mike Munson Trio opens the bill. Guitarist Mike Munson is joined by Nick Salisbury on bass and Lars-Erik Larson on drums. Their full-length album, Sometimes, not always., came out in spring 2026, and they describe their sound as drawing on the melancholic corners of American music.
