Exhibition of nine artists who used tapestry weaving to record and respond to everyday life over six months.
Diary Weaving is on display at Open Book in Minneapolis from October 12 through November 28, 2026. The show is held in the Literary Commons Gallery on the second floor, and there's a reception for it on Saturday, November 14.
The exhibition brings together nine artists who spent six months exploring weaving as a way to notice, record, and respond to everyday life. They all started from the same foundation—tapestry weaving—but from there, each one developed their own approach to a sustained creative practice. The resulting work runs the full length of that process: some pieces are small records of individual days, others are accumulated compositions, and some take on sculptural forms. They work with traditional fibers alongside unexpected and found materials, so you'll see a mix of the classic and the improvised.
What connects the pieces isn't a single aesthetic or a specific technique, but the act of returning to the loom, experimenting, and letting time and experience become visible through making. It's less about the finished object and more about the habit of showing up and recording what happens in between.
