Delightful 20: Two Decades of Celebrating Art and Friendship With Jennifer Davis and Amy Rice

Jennifer Davis and Amy Rice are back together at the California Building on Friday, November 13, for Delightful 20, the fifth installment of a series of mixed-media exhibitions they've been running since 2006. The gallery show opens Friday from 5 to 9 PM, and the two artists will be there in person.

This one is a bit of a milestone: the title marks two decades of their friendship and their work together. They first showed as a pair at Rosalux Gallery in 2006, and since then, the Delightful series has traveled across two states and three cities. Delightful Too went to Young Blood Gallery in Atlanta in 2007; Delightful 3 was at The Historic Minnesota Building in Saint Paul in 2011; and Delightful 10 hit Track 19 Gallery in 2016. This 2026 edition brings the project back to Minneapolis.

Critics have described their work as "inviting and succinct," "whimsical and melancholy," and a "dual monologue" that considers identical themes rather than a collaboration. That last part is a good way to think about it: they're showing side by side, each working through the same ideas in their own way, rather than blending their styles into a single piece.

There's more to it than just the gallery show, too. A pop-up shop on the same floor as the exhibition gathers smaller works, prints, and other original pieces from the two of them. It's open Saturday, November 14, from noon to 8 PM, and Sunday, November 15, from noon to 5 PM. So you can catch the main exhibition on Friday evening and then swing by the shop over the weekend to see the smaller stuff. The whole thing is on the sixth floor of the California Building, 2205 California Street NE, Minneapolis, 55418.
