Chamber music concert with Simon TrpÄeski at the piano and members of the Minnesota Orchestra, with works by Brahms, Prokofiev, Bacewicz and Tabakova.
Simon TrpÄeski takes the stage at Orchestra Hall on Sunday, October 25, for an afternoon of chamber music with members of the Minnesota Orchestra. TrpÄeski is a Macedonian pianist who first made his mark on the international scene two decades ago as a BBC New Generation Artist; since then, he's played with more than 100 orchestras across four continents.
The program runs from the early 20th century to the present. It opens with Grażyna Bacewicz's Suite for Two Violins, a piece first performed in secret underground in 1943 during the Nazi occupation. Next is Sergei Prokofiev's Quintet in G minor for Winds and Strings, Op. 39, which grew out of a chamber ballet commissioned by a traveling Paris troupe in 1924. The second half brings Dobrinka Tabakova's Insight and Johannes Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, which Brahms began in 1855 while Robert Schumann was in the final stages of his illness.
