Fall exhibition at 801 Gallery with new work by Camille Hempel, Pete Driessen and Pocket Toscani, with an opening reception on October 22.
Art at 801 Gallery opens its fall show on Thursday, October 22, with new work from Camille Hempel, Pete Driessen, and Pocket Toscani. The opening reception runs from 5 PM to 8 PM, and the show stays on view through January 10, 2027.
It's three very different practices sharing one room. Camille Hempel is a multi-disciplinary artist who focuses on the couch—its form, its place in the living room, and its role in the American psyche. Her earlier work painted portraits of them. Pete Driessen is a Minneapolis-based visual artist, sculptor, and cultural producer whose site-specific conceptual paintings, found-object installations, and public art initiatives blend painting, mixed media, sculpture, and installation. Pocket Toscani's paintings draw on the language of bygone decorative arts. Put them together and you get a show that pulls from sculpture, installation, and painting, with each artist working from a different set of references.
Opening night adds a live element: Rumba Eterna will be playing, with the music coming from Rumba Eterna Social Club. If you can't make the reception, the work stays up for months, so you've got plenty of time to catch it on your own. Just keep in mind that gallery showings are by appointment, so you'll want to coordinate ahead of time rather than just dropping in.

One last date to keep on the calendar: there's an artist talk on Sunday, January 10, at 2 PM, the same day the show closes. It's a good chance to hear the artists talk through their work in person. The gallery is at 801 N Washington Ave in Minneapolis.
