BareBones Puppets' 33rd annual Halloween show combining puppetry, stilting, dance, fire and live music in Powderhorn Park.
BareBones Puppets are back at Powderhorn Park with their 33rd annual Halloween show, Hum, Honk, Howl: As Above, So Below. It runs from Thursday, October 29 through Sunday, November 1, with a performance at 7 PM each night. The show lasts about 45 to 60 minutes, and there's a provisional rain date of November 2 if the weather doesn't hold.
BareBones is a Minneapolis-based puppet company, and this is their signature Halloween production. It brings together puppetry, stilting, dance, fire, and live music. This year's show is led by co-directors Marisa B. Tejeda and Maren Ward, who frame it as an offering to the beings and people of the place and time, drawing on moonlight, memory, and the cycles of living and dying in River City and Powderhorn Park.
Tejeda is a Minneapolis theater artist, actor, director, and educator whose work has been seen at The Guthrie Theater, The Jungle Theater, Children's Theatre Company, and Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and who has taught throughout the Twin Cities and inside Minnesota state prisons. Ward has been performing, directing, and making theater in the Twin Cities for over three decades; she's directed the zAmya Theater Project since 2004 and co-directed the BareBones Halloween shows from 1998 to 2007 and in 2013.
