The Twin Cities have a busy run of concerts this weekend, and the lineup runs from electro-pop and folk-rock to jazz and classical. The night most people will be talking about is Friday, October 23, when Sylvan Esso plays First Avenue in Minneapolis at 8:30 PM. The North Carolina duo, made up of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, is joined by papa mbye as the opener. The show is 18+ with a valid ID, and tickets run from $58 to $150 through axs.com. That same evening, folk-rock duo Indigo Girls wraps up a two-night stand at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, with Linda Perry on the bill and the show starting at 7 PM. Friday is a crowded night across both cities. Jeremy Messersmith teams up with All Hallow's Eve at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul at 8 PM, and Dogstar, with Keanu Reeves on bass, takes the stage at The Fillmore Minneapolis at 8 PM for $60. Over at Fine Line, Tank and the Bangas share a bill with Ledisi and Jelly Joseph at 8 PM, with tickets at $38. The Palace Theatre in St. Paul hosts Ryan Bingham and The Texas Gentlemen at 8 PM, priced from $49 to $93. Zac Brown Band brings Brothers Osborne, Marcus King, Snoop Dogg and Dolly Parton to Target Center at 7 PM, with tickets starting at $70.
Saturday, October 24 offers a different mix. Duane Betts plays Fine Line at 8 PM, with tickets from $39, and he's presenting songs from Isle of Hope, which was produced by Dave Cobb for Sun Records. Thundercat performs Distracted at The Fillmore at 8 PM, and Buena Vista Orchestra plays the same venue at 8 PM for $49 and up. Rebecca Black headlines the Varsity Theater at 8 PM, while The Longest Johns start earlier there at 6 PM. In St. Paul, American Aquarium plays the Turf Club at 7:30 PM on Saturday, and the same band returns to the Turf Club on Sunday, October 25. The Longest Johns are back at the Varsity on Monday, October 26.
For a quieter evening, the city has a few options worth a look. Chris Botti plays The Dakota in Minneapolis at 6:30 PM and 9 PM, with tickets starting at $117. On Friday at 7:30 PM, Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen performs a Franz Schubert recital at Ordway Concert Hall in St. Paul, with prices between $36 and $82. Maggie Koerner shares the bill with Susie McCollum at Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis at 8 PM on Friday, for $23.
Most of these shows have ticket links on the venue websites or through the main ticketing platforms, and prices can change close to the date, so it's worth checking before you head out. If you're planning a full weekend, the Friday lineup is the strongest, but there's something for almost every taste between now and Monday.
