Screening of the documentary Something That Was Ours, followed by a tour of the Witches & Healers exhibition.
The Portico Library is screening the documentary Something That Was Ours on Saturday 31 October, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. It's part of the Witches and Healers exhibition, which opened on Thursday 8 October and runs through the autumn. The screening is followed by a tour of the exhibition, so you get to see the film and then walk through the work it's based on.
Something That Was Ours is directed by Rosie Reed Hillman, and the exhibition Witches and Healers: something that was ours is her new work. Both draw on her project Something That Was Ours, which looks at what it means to be a witch today. The film gives you the moving image version, and the exhibition lets you see the project in a gallery setting, so doing both in one afternoon lets you see the same idea from two different angles.
It's worth keeping in mind where this is happening. The Portico Library sits in the heart of Manchester and programmes free public exhibitions that lean on its 220-year history and collection alongside contemporary work by local and international artists, and objects from partner museums and galleries. The exhibition space and the café, The Portico Kitchen, share the same area under the Library's Georgian dome, so you're in the same room as the books and the coffee.

The screening runs from 3:00 to 4:30 pm on Saturday 31 October, with the tour of the Witches and Healers exhibition following on. The exhibition itself has been open since 8 October, so if you can't make the screening, you can still catch the work on its own.
