A relaxed, sensory-friendly session at The Portico Library to celebrate Black History Month, with a visit to the Ledger of Liberation exhibition.
The Portico Library is running a special Relaxed Lates programme this October to mark Black History Month, with two Thursday evening sessions: 22 and 29 October, from 5:00 to 6:45pm. It's a couple of late-afternoon slots rather than a full night, so it works if you're coming straight from work or just fancy something to do before dinner.
The main thing to see is Ledger of Liberation, the exhibition that's on display during the programme. The whole thing is staged around Black History Month, and these sessions are built around visiting the show, so you'll have plenty of time to walk through it at your own pace. If you've already been once, the second date on the 29th gives you a chance to go back and pick up on things you might have missed the first time.
It's a relaxed format, which means it's designed to be a bit more low-pressure than a typical gallery visit. You can take your time with the Ledger of Liberation display without feeling rushed, and the timing—starting at 5:00 and wrapping up by 6:45—keeps it to a manageable window. Both sessions run on the same schedule, so you can pick whichever Thursday suits you best, or do both if you're really into it.
