Alternative rock outfit Portugal. The Man perform live at Academy 2 as part of the Communion Presents tour.
Portugal. The Man play Academy 2 on Tuesday 8 December, part of the Communion Presents tour. It's a mid-week date in the middle of the Manchester Academy complex, so it's a Tuesday night in the city rather than a weekend one.
If you're not familiar with them, they're an alternative rock outfit that blends experimental rock and psychedelic textures with a pop sensibility. The sound is built around John Gourley's distinctive falsetto, and the band is known for atmospheric guitar work, electronic influences and strong songwriting. They've spent years moving between those more experimental, textural spaces and the kind of melodies that stick.
Most people will recognise them from 'Feel It Still', which became a cultural phenomenon, topped alternative charts and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. It's the song that brought them to a much wider audience, but it sits alongside a broader body of work that leans into the psychedelic and the electronic.
