Placebo celebrate their 30th anniversary with songs from their first two albums, with special guest The Hunger.
Placebo are back at Co-op Live on Friday 4 December, playing as part of their 30th anniversary tour. It's a set that looks back rather than forward: they're focusing on their first two albums, which means the night is built around the early era of the band. They've mentioned that the set will include songs that haven't been played live in more than 20 years, so if you've seen them a few times over the years, there's a good chance you'll hear things you haven't heard from them since the 90s.
That's the era they built their following on, too. Their sound from those first two records was a distinctive 90s and 00s alternative rock, driven by angsty lyrics and a sharp, melodic edge. You'll recognise the big ones from that period — 'Every You Every Me', 'Pure Morning' and 'The Bitter End' — and they'll be joined by their cover of Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill'. The Hunger are on as special guest, so there's a full night of it rather than just the main set.
Co-op Live is one of the city's newest and most modern live entertainment venues, and this is one of the bigger nights they've got coming up this winter. It's a Friday night, so it works as a proper night out in the city. If you're bringing anyone younger, just keep in mind that under-18s have to be accompanied by an adult.
