An afternoon of philosophy, conversation, stories and creativity with Hinterland as part of the Hinterland Festival.
Hinterland are taking over The Portico Library on Friday 6 November for Mother Earth | Myths & Realities, an afternoon of philosophy, conversation, stories and creativity. It runs from 15:30 to 17:30, so it's one of those mid-afternoon things rather than a late one.
The session is part of the Hinterland Festival, which runs from 5 to 8 November across seven city-centre venues. Hinterland itself is Manchester's newest philosophy, arts and culture festival, and it grew out of a passion for conscious 'third spaces' — those spots that aren't home or work where you can just exist and meet people. The festival's own hub, Hinterland, is a conscious bar and cafe in the basement of the Manchester Buddhist Centre on Turner Street, and it's where the whole thing started.
What they're after is creating places where communities can gather, stimulate their imagination and explore wisdom through deep thought, conversation, arts, poetry and open discussions about life and society. Mother Earth | Myths & Realities fits right into that: philosophy, conversation, stories and creativity, all under one roof. If you're into the idea of spending a couple of hours talking through big questions rather than just listening to a lecture, this is exactly the kind of thing they're doing across the festival.
