Manchester DJ and writer Dave Haslam launches his new book 'Creative Journeys' with intimate conversations with artists, actors and musicians.
Dave Haslam is at HOME on Saturday 24 October, where he's launching his new book Creative Journeys. The evening is part of the Manchester Literature Festival, and it's not a reading in the usual sense: Haslam is turning the book into a live format, hosting intimate conversations with artists, actors and musicians and tracing the paths taken by cultural icons.
If you're not familiar with him, Haslam is a Manchester DJ, writer and broadcaster who's spent four decades talking to people across music, literature, film and art. That's a lot of ground to cover, and Creative Journeys seems to be the one that pulls those threads together. It's not his first go at the written word, either. His previous books include Manchester, England, Not ABBA, Adventures on the Wheels of Steel, Life After Dark and the memoir Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor: Music, Manchester & More. That last one, in particular, does a fair job of summing up the mix he works with: music, the city, and a bit of everything in between.
The whole thing is presented by the Manchester Literature Festival, and the format—Haslam in conversation with guests—is exactly what the book is built on. Rather than just talking about the book, he's bringing the conversations it's based on into the room. The guests are artists, actors and musicians, so the night should pull from a few different worlds at once.
