Multilingual poetry reading with Jeremy Pak Nelson and Nóra Blascsók, performing in English, Hungarian and Mandarin on the theme 'What We Inherit, What Haunts Us'.
Jeremy Pak Nelson and Nóra Blascsók are performing at the Manchester Poetry Library on Thursday 15 October, as part of the Manchester Multilingual City Poets series. It's a reading that works across languages, with the two poets performing in English, Hungarian and Mandarin. The evening is co-presented by Manchester City of Literature and the Poetry Library, and it runs for about 75 minutes.
Both poets will be debuting new work commissioned by the Manchester Literature Festival and Manchester UNESCO City of Literature around the theme 'What We Inherit, What Haunts Us'. The poems draw on heritage, ancestral memory and the stories carried across borders, so the whole night sits around those ideas of what we carry with us from the past. It's new material, too, so this is one of the first times these pieces will be heard out loud.
Jeremy Pak Nelson is a writer and artist from Hong Kong whose work spans poetry, fiction and visual art, and has appeared in Magma, Interpret and Small Wonders. Nóra Blascsók was named a 2025 New Northern Poet; her work has been in The Poetry Review, Propel and Perverse, and her debut pamphlet came out in 2022, with her next due in 2027. Between them, they bring three languages to the same stage, and the new poems they're debuting are the centre of the evening.
