Internationally bestselling author Lee Child discusses the inspirations behind his work and offers an early look at his new novel Chain Reaction.
Lee Child is coming to HOME on Friday 23 October, as part of the Manchester Literature Festival. He'll be in conversation with Alex Clark, talking through the books, writers and experiences that shaped his career, his early years as a writer and the craft of creating suspense. It's a chance to hear about how he builds a thriller from the ground up, rather than just a chat about the plots themselves.
Child is best known for the Jack Reacher series, with more than 100 million books sold worldwide and Author of the Year at the 2019 British Book Awards. He was born in Coventry and raised in Birmingham, but he's not a complete stranger to the city — he spent time in Manchester working for Granada Television, so this is a return to familiar ground. The talk sits within the wider Manchester Literature Festival, which brings a whole range of writers to the city throughout the autumn.
Alongside the look back, there's a look forward: he'll be giving an early glimpse of his new thriller, Chain Reaction. In it, Reacher investigates the murder of a covert operative and gets drawn into a web of secrets and powerful interests. It's the latest outing for the character who's become his trademark, and you'll get a first look at it here before it's out in the wild.
