A chamber music concert featuring Priaulx Rainier's Quanta for oboe and strings, alongside a world premiere of Richard Causton's new work for solo cor anglais.
Hallé St Peter's hosts a chamber concert on Friday 6 November, with Priaulx Rainier's Quanta as the main feature. It's written for oboe and strings, and it shares the bill with a world premiere: a new work for solo cor anglais by Richard Causton. Between the two, the oboe family takes centre stage, with the cor anglais — the oboe's deeper, more mellow cousin — getting its own solo spot alongside Rainier's larger ensemble piece.
If you haven't spent much time there, Hallé St Peter's is a Grade II listed church in the heart of Ancoats, dating back to 1859. It's the primary rehearsal and recording space for the Hallé Orchestra, the Hallé Choir and various Hallé ensembles, and it was rejuvenated in 2019 to include room for education workshops and small performances. These days it hosts many of the venue's popular Concerts by Candlelight, so it's a space that works as much for a quiet rehearsal as it does for a public concert.
