Award-winning comedy show about Princess Diana, combining drag, multimedia and audience interaction, created and performed by Linus Karp.
Linus Karp brings Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story to The Lowry on Saturday 14 November, with two performances that afternoon and evening. It's a new show from Awkward Productions, written and performed by Karp and created with support from Arts Council England. The premise is simple: the late Princess Diana is portrayed as a drag figure who shares the untold and untrue tale of her life.
It's not a one-woman show in the traditional sense. Karp mixes drag with multimedia, audience interaction and puppetry, and describes the whole thing as having a good deal of queer joy. He also bills it as hilarious and tasteless, so you've got a fair idea of the tone before you even walk through the doors. It's less a biography and more a drag reimagining, with the 'untold and untrue' part of the title doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
This is the latest from Awkward Productions, whose previous work has followed a similar vein of taking well-known things and twisting them. How To Live A Jellicle Life was their take on the 2019 hit musical Cats, and Awkward Conversations With Animals I've Fcked sat in a similar territory of the absurd. Diana* continues that streak, with Karp writing and performing the whole thing himself.
