Deacon Blue mark the 40th anniversary of their album Raintown with a two-set concert, featuring an intimate acoustic first half and an electric second half of hits.
Deacon Blue play Co-op Live on Friday 22 October 2027, as part of their Raintown 40th Anniversary Tour. It's a 17-date run across the UK and Ireland, and the Manchester date is one of them. The tour marks forty years since Raintown came out, and it's a bit more than a standard run of shows: they're playing two sets in one night, with no support act to open for them.
The first half is the acoustic one, with the band gathered round the piano and acoustic guitars. The second half is electric and works its way through their hits. Vocalist and songwriter Ricky Ross says the plan is to play all or nearly all the old 45s, plus album tracks and reinterpreted back-catalogue favourites. So you'll hear the singles that got them known, the deeper cuts from the records, and some of the older songs reworked.
It's a long run for the band, and the anniversary goes back further than just Raintown. They're also marking more than thirty-five years since their debut single 'Dignity' and millions of records sold. The tour eventually winds up with a homecoming show at Glasgow's OVO Hydro.
