Live comedy show by the comic clairvoyant Clinton Baptiste, a character created and played by Alan Lowe, originally from Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights.
Clinton Baptiste is coming to the Lyric Theatre at The Lowry on Friday 12 February 2027, with his show Spectral Intercourse. If the name sounds familiar, it's because Baptiste isn't a real medium — he's a comic character created and played by the English actor, writer and comedian Alan Lowe.
Baptiste first appeared on screen back in 2001 in Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, where he worked as an act at The Phoenix working men's club. He's a flamboyant and somewhat hapless psychic medium, and that's exactly who he is on stage. The show follows a simple enough format: he takes queries from the audience and reaches out to the spirits for answers, still channelling cosmic wisdom and wrestling with messages from beyond the veil as the character returns to the British stage. It's a live comedy show, so the laughs come as much from the medium's struggle with the spirits as from the answers he claims to find.
Since those early appearances, the character has built a cult following of his own, leading to four sell-out UK tours and Clinton Baptiste's Paranormal Podcast. It's one of those acts that started as a small part of a larger show and ended up with its own life. Alan Lowe is the man behind the persona, and he's worked across a fair few different styles — he's known as 'Barry from Watford' on Steve Wright's BBC Radio 2 show and has taken West End roles like Fatal Attraction at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Spectral Intercourse brings him back to the stage as Baptiste, the medium who's always just a bit out of his depth.
