A candlelight concert bringing the music of Queen and ABBA to Manchester Cathedral, performed by String Quartet Kavolini.
Candlelight: Queen vs ABBA comes to Manchester Cathedral on Thursday 15 October, with the String Quartet Kavolini taking on two of the biggest songbooks in pop. It's a double bill in one night, and the setlist pulls from both sides of the Atlantic: Queen's stadium rock and ABBA's Swedish pop, both stripped back to strings.
Kavolini will work through a programme of hits from both bands. From ABBA, you'll hear Dancing Queen, SOS, Money Money Money, Waterloo, Super Trouper, Mamma Mia and Take a Chance on Me. Queen's side of the night brings Bohemian Rhapsody, I Want to Break Free, Don't Stop Me Now, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. It's a long list of songs that usually fill arenas, here played by four string players instead of full bands.
The whole thing is part of the Candlelight series, which they describe as live, multi-sensory musical experiences staged in awe-inspiring settings, often in locations never before used for this purpose and performed under the gentle glow of candlelight. The cathedral is one of those settings, and the candlelight is the constant across the different programmes they run.
