Norfolk-born singer-songwriter Beth Orton performs live at The Stoller Hall in Manchester, showcasing her folktronica style and recent work.
Beth Orton plays The Stoller Hall on Tuesday 13 October, with the concert starting at 7:30 PM. It's a solo bill, so it's just her on stage.
Orton's been at this for three decades, and the set should draw from a long stretch of records. She's a BRIT Award winner credited with pioneering folktronica, and her career spans the early trip-hop leaning of 1996's Trailer Park and the earthy classic rock of 2006's Comfort of Strangers. More recently, her 2022 album Weather Alive made year-end best-of lists at NPR, Pitchfork and The New York Times, and its title track earned a Best New Track nod. That record was built around an upright piano she installed in her garden shed in London, and she brought in collaborators like jazz poet Alabaster DePlume, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner and bassist Tom Herbert. Her latest, The Ground Above, was called 'deeply felt and beautifully arranged' by Pitchfork.
She's a Norfolk-born singer-songwriter who's spent thirty years operating on her own frequency, writing songs that act as a weather vane for the inner conditions of an emotional landscape. The set will likely pull from that whole span, from the early folktronica days through to the more recent, piano-led material.
