Baked A La Ska bring their spooky ska to live performances with a Halloween special, fancy dress encouraged.
Baked A La Ska bring their Halloween special to Band on the Wall on Friday 30 October, a night built around the spooky side of ska. They're a Manchester band, and they describe themselves as the city's 'heavy heavy sound'βan eleven-headed ska monster that puts a lot of people on stage at once. The front is shared by three singers, Frank 'The Skank', Tommy Robot and Kuntri Ranks, with Robin Sunflower on harmonica and keyboardist Mr John Ellis leading the lot. It's a big line-up for a single band, and the Halloween theme fits the bill.
They'll be working through their most-loved spooky classics, drawing from Skalloween, which they describe as the spookiest ska record ever made. The press have had their say too: The Sunday Times called them 'utterly bonkers but irresistible', and the Manchester Evening News stuck with 'irresistible'. Between the three singers and the harmonica, there's plenty of voice and brassy energy to carry the set, and the whole thing is built on the off-beat, dancey swing that ska is known for.
