Former US President Barack Obama discusses leadership, democracy and resilience in conversation with Afua Hirsch, as the US marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
President Barack Obama comes to Co-op Live on Thursday 15 October, as part of a three-date October tour that also stops in Belfast and Glasgow. He'll be joined on stage by Afua Hirsch for a conversation on leadership, democracy, resilience and the role individuals can play in creating change. The timing has a bit of a hook to it: the US is marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, and the Manchester date falls during Black History Month.
It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one evening. Obama's path into politics started on Chicago's South Side working as a community organiser, then took him to Harvard Law School, where he became the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was elected in November 2008, becoming the first African American president of the United States, and served two terms as the country's 44th president.
Since leaving office, he's focused on the next generation of leaders through the Obama Foundation and the Obama Presidential Center, which opened this summer on the South Side of Chicago. The talk at Co-op Live is one of three stops on the tour, with Belfast and Glasgow making up the rest of the run.
