An evening with author Philippa Gregory exploring the characters and histories that inspired her novel Royal Witch, part of the History Read programme.
Philippa Gregory is coming to HOME on Friday 30 October, as part of the tour for her new novel Royal Witch. It's an evening in conversation, and she'll be talking through the characters and the history that went into the book.
If you're not familiar with her work, Gregory is a British historical novelist whose books have made their way into popular culture: The Other Boleyn Girl and The White Queen were both turned into BBC One dramas. Royal Witch is her latest, and it reimagines the court of Henry V — a place she describes as glittering and treacherous. At the centre of the story is Eleanor Cobham, England's first and only convicted royal witch. During the evening, Gregory walks the audience through the real people and the historical records that inspired the novel, showing how ambition, sorcery and treason intertwined in one woman's desperate bid for power.
The night is part of the 'History Read' programme, and it's a stop on the tour for the new book, so it's a good chance to hear her talk about the research and the writing process behind it. It's an all-ages event, so you're welcome to bring along anyone who shares an interest in the Tudors and the Plantagenets.
