Comedian Adam Kay celebrates a decade of his live tour This is Going to Hurt, with diary entries and a Q&A.
Adam Kay is bringing his This is Going to Hurt tour to The Lowry on Sunday 2 May 2027. It's a ten-year anniversary show, so it's a bit of a milestone — a decade on from when the original tour first set off.
If you're not familiar with the name, Kay is a BAFTA winner, an Emmy nominee, and a multi-million-bestselling author, but he started out as a junior doctor. His debut book, This is Going to Hurt, spent more than a year at number one on the Sunday Times bestseller list, was translated into 37 languages, won ten national awards, and sold more than three million copies. It went on to be the bestselling UK narrative non-fiction book of 2022. He's followed that with 'Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas and Undoctored, both also Sunday Times number one bestsellers, and his first novel, A Particularly Nasty Case, arrived in 2025. He's also one of the country's bestselling children's authors, with Kay's Anatomy being the fastest-selling children's non-fiction book of the decade, alongside his Dexter Procter fiction series.
On stage, he's sold out numerous West End seasons and international tours, with over 500,000 people attending his shows. This particular tour is the record-breaking live show updated for 2027, and the anniversary version adds an exclusive Q&A session to the mix. The set itself is built around his diary entries, so it's the same material that made the book a hit, brought to the stage and updated for the new year.
