North Carolina Americana band A Different Thread on their Over Again album release tour, with local support from Hazel Genevieve.
A Different Thread play the Carlton Club on Wednesday 14 October, part of the tour for their latest album, Over Again. They're supported by the local duo Dogwood Roses.
It's a transatlantic pairing that explains the sound. The duo is Alicia Best, from Durham, North Carolina, and Robert Jackson, from Staffordshire, and they're joined on stage by double bassist Mike Seal. Between them they cover acoustic guitar, fiddle, harmonica, a suitcase drum kit and close vocal harmonies, blending British folk-rock with North Carolina alt-country.
They met by chance while busking on the cobbled streets of Galway in 2016 and got together the following year after winning the Shrewsbury Folk Festival's Open Mic Competition. Over Again came out on 2 September 2025, written during a period of transition and recorded across a tiny home studio, Sylvan Esso's Betty's, and Alma Vale Studio in the UK. The title track took Best in Folk/Americana at the 2026 International Acoustic Music Awards.
