Interactive talk facilitated by Tito Mogaji exploring movement in all its forms and its link to east London's creative culture.
Tito Mogaji leads Why We Move at the V&A East Storehouse on Sunday 7 February, from 13:00 to 15:00. It's an interactive talk that looks at movement in all its forms — physical, emotional, geographic and political — and asks how bodies hold knowledge and communicate ideas that language alone can't quite reach. It also considers how migration has shaped east London's creative culture, and whether practices like dance, sport or skating are as much political acts as creative ones.
The session draws on audio prompts, voice notes and recorded reflections from east London practitioners working across movement-based disciplines. It's not just a talk to sit and listen to, either: there's a body map sketching activity and a collective physical exploration. The whole thing is part of the V&A's Ideas Exchange programme of interactive sessions, and it'll be documented through film, photography and live artist interpretation.
Tito Mogaji facilitates the afternoon. He's the founder of Nourishment, a community and cultural agency that focuses on connecting underrepresented communities with arts and culture through curated experiences, campaigns and partnerships.
