A talk by Victor Keegan following the route of 'Lost London' along the Thames, uncovering a buried palace, an Anglo-Saxon dock and Shakespeare's theatre.
Victor Keegan is taking a walk along the Thames on Saturday 9 January, from Blackfriars to London Bridge, at The Thorney Island Society. It's a talk that follows the route of Lost London, and it's presented in person by the society.
Keegan's route uncovers a few things you'd never notice if you just walked the riverbank. There's a large buried palace that shaped a good deal of British history, the world's oldest Anglo-Saxon dock, and the theatre where Shakespeare made most of his money — and no, it wasn't The Globe. It's the kind of stuff that's still there, just hidden under the city we walk over every day.
Keegan knows his way around this. He's a former Guardian journalist who's written three books on Lost London, including Thorney, London's forgotten Island, which came out this year. This talk is presented by The Thorney Island Society, and it's an in-person session, so you'll be there in the room with him rather than watching from a screen.
