Panel of four writers, hosted by Yomi Ṣode, on what the sound of a novel is, as part of the London Literature Festival.
Jacqueline Crooks, Omar Musa, Sufiyaan Salam and Kae Tempest are taking the stage at Queen Elizabeth Hall on Friday 30 October for Fierce Sounds, a talk hosted by Yomi Ṣode. It's part of the Service95 Book Club, which Dua Lipa started as a space to share her monthly reads and author interviews. She's talked about how reading has anchored her through different chapters of her life — from being the new kid in a new country to finding a quiet refuge while on tour — and she's used that to bring together a line-up of her favourite established and emerging writers.
The conversation centres on a single question: 'What is the sound of a novel?' From there, the panel looks at how sound, rhythm and form shape their work, moving between poetry, prose, spoken word and performance. It's a good way to see where those things overlap, especially with a group that works across different styles. DJ Conrad Kira will be providing tracks throughout the night, so it's more of a live event than a standard panel discussion.
The whole thing sits within the 19th edition of the London Literature Festival, the capital's longest-running literature and spoken word festival, which this year is curated by Dua Lipa and the Service95 Book Club with support from Bukhman Philanthropies. If you've been following the festival, this is one of the nights that leans into the spoken word side of things.
