Women-only tennis sessions for women over 50 at Downhills Park, part of Haringey's 'People Need Parks' initiative.
People Need Parks are running women's tennis sessions for over 50s at Downhills Park, starting Friday 23 October. It's a six-week run that takes you through the autumn and into the winter, with sessions on 23 and 30 October, then 6, 13, 20, and 27 November. Each one runs from 1.00pm to 2.00pm.
These are women-only sessions, and the whole thing is part of Haringey's 'People Need Parks' initiative. The idea is to help you get ready for the change of season with a gentle workout to keep you moving, connect with others, have some fun, and make a good start to the new year. If you've been meaning to get back on court or just want a low-pressure way to stay active as the weather turns, this is a good place to start.
Downhills Park itself is a 12-hectare space split into a recreation ground to the west and formal gardens to the east, with the early 19th-century design still there. The ornamental Italian Gardens at its heart are a favourite for peace and quiet. The site was once a large Georgian house built before 1728, and in 1901 Tottenham Urban District Council bought the land and grounds. It won the Green Flag award in 2006 and has kept it ever since. A volunteer group, The Friends of Downhills Park, promotes the public benefit and enjoyment of the park, and all Haringey parks are accessible to wheelchair users.

Each session is £6, with a concessionary rate of £3. That's for the hour on court, so you can drop in for one or stick with it for the full six weeks. The park is at Downhills Park Road, London N17 6PE, and the sessions run from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on Fridays.
