Monthly live lounge night by Maxwell D at Soul Mama Islington, with Shystie and Stush.
Maxwell D & Friends are back at Soul Mama Islington on Thursday 22 October, with Shystie and Stush on the bill. It's a soul night, and it forms part of Maxwell D's monthly residency at the venue, which he runs under the name Maxwell D & Friends: Live Lounge.
If you're coming to this as a new face, it helps to know where Maxwell D fits into the London scene. He first made his name as a jungle MC on Rinse and Kool FM back in the 1990s, and later became a member of the Pay As U Go Cartel alongside Wiley, Riko Dan and God's Gift. From there, he went on to be a key figure in the birth of the grime scene in the early 2000s. This residency is a different side of things, though — a soul night rather than a grime one.
On the night, Shystie and Stush join him on the bill. It's all part of the same Live Lounge monthly residency, so if you enjoy this one, there'll be another coming around the same time next month. Soul Mama is on Parkfield Street in Islington, so it's an easy enough spot to find.
