Weekly Sunday badminton session for players of all abilities at the Sobell Badminton Club in Islington.
London Badminton Clubs run their Sunday session at Sobell Leisure Centre every week, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. It's one of North London's best-known badminton clubs and forms part of the leisure centre itself, so it's easy to find if you're already in the area. The club describes itself as very friendly and welcomes new players of every ability, which makes it a good shout if you're just starting out or haven't picked up a racket in years.
One of the best things about it is the turn-up-and-pay setup. There's no long-term commitment or membership to sign up for before you go, so you can just show up on a Sunday afternoon and play. Yonex Mavis 300 shuttlecocks are provided as part of the fee, so you don't need to worry about bringing your own. The Sunday session is run by Mark, who also offers racket-stringing services if yours has seen better days.
If Sundays don't work for you, there's a Friday night session at the same venue from 7.30pm to 10pm. For those looking for something a bit more structured, the club's sister club, the London Badminton Academy, offers coaching and sessions at Highgate Wood School on Montenotte Road, with coaches appointed by Badminton England.
