Michael Morpurgo talks about his new book 'Down Burrow Lane' and the charity Farms For City Children, chaired by Peter Florence.
Michael Morpurgo is at St Martin-in-the-Fields on Monday 9 November, as part of the church's Autumn Lecture Series. He's a writer and storyteller whose name you'll know from War Horse and Private Peaceful — two of more than 150 books he's written for children and adults — and who has spent a long time arguing for children's right to the countryside. The evening is chaired by Peter Florence, who also curates the series.
Morpurgo will be talking about his new book, Down Burrow Lane, which tells the story of a Devon farm that has changed thousands of lives. That farm is the one he and his wife Clare turned into the charity Farms For City Children fifty years ago, so the talk is as much about that story — and about transformation, opportunity and the power of nature — as it is about his writing. It's a chance to hear him talk about the real-life project that sits behind the book.
The lecture is part of the Autumn Lecture Series at St Martin-in-the-Fields, produced by Jolley Gosnold and Maddie Naisbitt and curated by Peter Florence. The series is designed to bridge theological and secular discussion around social justice, global responsibility, spirituality and humane intelligence. It's also joining the European Festivals Forest to plant trees to capture carbon.
