Free talk by Professor Michael Snape on the role of religion and faith in the modern British Army, from the Korean War to Afghanistan.
Professor Michael Snape is at the National Army Museum in Chelsea on Friday 30 October, with a talk titled Embattled Belief. It runs from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, so it's a lunchtime thing rather than an evening one.
Snape's talk looks at the place of religion and faith in the modern British Army, and it doesn't just stick to one era. He traces that influence across several conflicts, from the Korean War through to Afghanistan, so you'll get a sense of how it's shifted over the decades rather than just a snapshot of one particular war. If you've ever wondered how faith actually sits within the structure of the army — and how that changes when the army is deployed — this is exactly where that conversation happens.
The talk is held at the National Army Museum on Royal Hospital Road, which has looked after the history and heritage of the British Army since 1660. It's a proper museum, not just a venue for the day, with family-friendly galleries and activities for children, so it's easy enough to make a full afternoon of it if you're in the area. There's also an Audio Described Tour available if you're after that. The museum itself is free to visit and open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5.30pm, closed Mondays.
