A vigil to remember those lost to HIV, honour those living with the virus and reflect together as a community, closing the Homotopia Festival 2026 programme.
Liverpool Parish Church (St Nick's) hosts the World AIDS Day Vigil on Tuesday 1 December, from 18:00 to 19:30. It's a gathering to remember those lost to HIV, honour those living with the virus today, and reflect together as a community. The service is led by Sahir, and it's open to everyone.
The vigil marks World AIDS Day, and it also closes the Homotopia Festival 2026 programme, We Come Together, a celebration of queer art, performance and community that this year honours trans model and pioneer April Ashley. Director Jayne Compton describes the festival as "a gathering and an act of hope and resistance".
Beyond the service, Sahir installs a public 'Wall of Remembrance' on the steps of Liverpool's World Museum. It's covered in hundreds of red ribbons tied by families, friends and members of the public, each honouring a life, a memory or a story. Between the two, the vigil is about remembering those who've gone, supporting those still here, and taking a moment to reflect as a community.
