A screening of the 1983 supernatural horror film The Keep in its original 35mm format at FACT Liverpool, part of the monthly 16mm and 35mm series.
The Keep is coming to FACT Liverpool on Monday 2 November, screened from an original 35mm print in Screen 2. It's Michael Mann's 1983 supernatural cult classic, and for a lot of people it's a notoriously hard-to-see one.
The story is set during the Second World War, when German soldiers occupy an isolated stone fortress in the Carpathian Mountains and unwittingly release a powerful presence from within its walls. It's remembered as a visually arresting collision of ancient evil, wartime brutality and Tangerine Dream's haunting electronic score. Because it's coming from a 35mm print, you'll see the grain, flicker and imperfections of the celluloid rather than a cleaned-up digital version.
The cast includes Scott Glenn, Ian McKellen, Jürgen Prochnow and Gabriel Byrne, and the whole thing runs 96 minutes. The night is part of FACT's monthly 16mm and 35mm series, which runs on the first Monday of every month and focuses on cult classics and landmark films on film. One lucky film-goer is invited into the projection room to see the reels and specialist equipment up close.
