A dislocated disco for the queer community, bringing Sonic Yootha's cult club energy and queer joy to 24 Kitchen Street as part of the Homotopia Festival.
Sonic Yootha take over 24 Kitchen Street on Saturday 28 November, as part of this year's Homotopia festival. They describe the night as a "dislocated disco for homos, fauxmos, gender-blenders, full time queers and part-time Brendas," and the whole thing is built around dancing the night away.
It's a special edition of the club, and it sits within Homotopia, the UK's longest-running LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival, which has been championing courageous artists and creating spaces for queer stories to flourish since 2004. This year's edition is titled We Come Together, and it's framed as a celebration of queer creativity across performance, visual art, film, music, workshops and club nights. The festival opens with House of Suarez's 20th Anniversary Runway, and the rest of the programme follows on from there.
Executive Director Jayne Compton, in her first year, describes the programme as an invitation to transformative art that helps audiences remember their histories and imagine new futures. The festival is funded by Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council, and Sonic Yootha brings its cult club energy and queer joy to the 24 Kitchen Street space for this particular night.
