Special 35mm screening of Terence Davies' documentary Of Time and The City, with a chance to enter the projection room.
FACT Liverpool is screening Terence Davies' Of Time and The City on 35mm on Monday 7 December. It's a 77-minute documentary, rated 12A, and it's part of FACT's monthly series of 16mm and 35mm screenings, which run on the first Monday of every month. The series is supported by Film Hub North with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network.
Of Time and The City is Davies' deeply personal portrait of Liverpool, built from archive footage woven together with music, poetry and his own narration. It works as both a love letter and a lament, moving between affection, anger, humour and grief as he reflects on family, faith, sexuality, popular culture and urban change, and on the forces that shaped the city of his childhood. Seeing it on 35mm gives the film a different weight than a digital version, and it's a fitting way to watch a film that's so much about the city's own recorded history.
There's one more thing that sets this apart from a standard screening: each night, one lucky audience member is invited into the projection room to see the reels and the specialist equipment up close. If you've ever wondered what's actually happening behind the glass, this is your chance to see it for yourself.
