A newly composed choral service for the dancefloor by Fatt Butcher, blending house, trance, gospel and classical music with a live choir, DJ and piano, part of the Homotopia 2026 festival.
Fatt Butcher brings Congregational to the Liverpool Philharmonic on Friday 20 November, a newly composed choral service for the dancefloor. It's a ceremony for the club and a service to dying nightlife, and it's being staged as a communal experience. The music blends house, trance, gospel, classical and experimental styles, so it's a fair bit more than a standard gig.
On stage, Fatt Butcher is joined by a live choir of professional queer vocalists, a superstar DJ and virtuosic piano accompaniment. The Liverpool Rainbow Chorus will also be there as special guests. It's a big, mixed ensemble for a single room, and the whole thing is built around the idea of a service — a ceremony for the dancefloor, as the description puts it.
The night is part of Homotopia 2026, the UK's longest-running LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival. Homotopia has been running since 2004, championing courageous artists and creating spaces for queer stories to flourish across the Liverpool City Region. This year's programme is called We Come Together, and it runs from 17 October to 1 December across the city, with theatre, live art, comedy, club culture, film, workshops and public conversations. Congregational sits within that, as one of the many nights that make up the festival.
