Free hands-on cooking session run by the community charity Lister Steps, where participants work with fresh ingredients and herbs to build cooking skills and confidence.
Chop, Cook & Connect is back at Lister Steps at The Old Library on Wednesday 28 October, starting at 09:30. It's a hands-on food and wellbeing session run by Lister Steps, the community charity based in L13 that's been working across the area for around twenty years. The whole thing is about building cooking skills, confidence and creativity through fresh ingredients and shared meals.
It's a proper do-it-yourself setup: you'll handle and work with fresh produce, practise basic cookery, and experiment with flavours and herbs. The best bit is that you take your creations home to recreate later. The programme runs throughout the year with themed sessions, so depending on when you drop in, you might find yourself making pesto from fresh herbs, rolling handmade pasta, whipping up kefir and herb dip, or frying pan-cooked flatbreads. Other sessions cover honey and spices, or lentil and bean soup. It's all part of the venue's wider Food, Herbs and Wellbeing Programme.
Lister Steps is a value-led community charity that's been delivering services in Liverpool L13 for about two decades, and this is just one of the things they do from The Old Library. The building is a community hub that doubles as a space for live music and wellness events, and they also run a nursery, free soup Fridays and a cafe from there. If you're around on a Friday, the soup is a good excuse to pop in and see what else is going on.
