Live cello show by Australian multi-style cellist and songwriter William Jack at Hyde Park Book Club, over 18s only.
William Jack plays Hyde Park Book Club on Tuesday 20 October, from 7:30pm to 10:59pm. He's an Australian multi-style cellist and songwriter based in London, and the night is a solo show.
Jack's background is a bit of a crossover: he's classically trained in Vienna, but he brings a jazz guitar background to the cello, and that's where the unconventional side comes in. His music ranges from virtuosic folk and bluegrass to non-Western sound worlds, and he's toured Europe, Australia and the UK extensively. He's performed solo compositions from his album This Old Cello Box live on BBC Radio 3 at the Edinburgh Fringe, and was named a 'New Folk' songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. He also picked up the best music award at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe.
There's a fair bit of praise behind him, too. GLAM Adelaide called him 'a master of unconventional cello playing', BBC Radio 3 described his work as 'outstanding, a truly remarkable performance' and DEBUT UK dubbed him a 'cellopickin' sensation'.
