Holiday woodland play and bushcraft day for 8-12 year olds at Skelton Grange, led by The Conservation Volunteers.
The Conservation Volunteers are running a Wild Play Day for 8-12 year olds at TCV Skelton Grange Environment Centre on Tuesday 27 October, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It's a full day of woodland play and bushcraft set in the woods at Skelton Grange, led by experienced leaders.
The activities change by session and season, so it's hard to say exactly what's on the cards for this one, but the list of what they've done before gives a good idea of the range. Past days have included wide games, shelter building, fire lighting, and campfire cooking, alongside field games and hammock hanging. There's a craftier side to it too: wild food walks, woodwork, string making, bows and arrows, stalking and tracking, pyro-carving and charcoal making. It's the kind of day where you're out in the woods doing things with your hands rather than sitting at a desk.
All the proceeds go to TCV's charitable work at the centre, so the cost of a place supports what they do there year-round. Children need to bring a packed lunch, and the organisers advise against bringing phones — if they do, they're asked to keep them in a bag. A practical note for the drive in: there's a security cabin and gate about halfway along Skelton Grange Road, with a construction site next door, so keep that in mind when you're heading towards the centre.
