Wavio Comedy Club - Launch Party

Antony Vila is launching the Wavio Comedy Club at the Wavio Room on Thursday 22 October, from 8pm to 10pm. It's the first night for a new mixed-bill comedy club in Leeds, and the format is exactly what the name suggests: guest stand-up sets running alongside playful improvised comedy. Vila hosts the whole thing, and while the guest line-up is still being finalised, the night is built around that blend of scripted and unscripted material.

If you've come across Vila's other work, that improvised side will make sense. He also fronts The Stand-up Experience, an unscripted show built around the audience in which he weaves the room's stories, quirks and unexpected answers into a live performance, so no two shows ever come out the same. He describes it as Eddie Izzard meets Willy Wonka, and that same instinct for working with the room is part of what the Wavio Comedy Club is setting out to do.

The Wavio Room is at 62 New Briggate, LS1 6NU, right in the city centre. It's an 18+ night with unreserved seating, so there's no need to book a specific spot in advance. Entry is free, with optional tips on the night and no obligation to contribute, so you can just turn up and see how it lands. The bookings are handled by stand-up.co.uk, and the whole thing runs from 8pm to 10pm.
