Free hometown gig by Leeds noisepop band Wandering Summer, with Adult Contemporary and Pretty Fried, to launch their debut 7-inch single 'Mother'.
Wandering Summer play Brudenell Social Club on Thursday 29 October, with Adult Contemporary and Pretty Fried on support. It's a hometown launch for their debut 7-inch single, Mother (b/w Moon & Soldier), which comes out through the London label Precious Recordings in a limited run of 250 copies.
Wandering Summer are a noisepop, indie-rock band from Leeds, formed in the aftermath of Covid and led by multi-instrumentalist and singer Geddy Laurence. He's a familiar figure on the city's underground scene, having played in Boy Racer, City Yelps, Wonderswan and Nervous Twitch, and he's spent time promoting alt-rock acts from the San Francisco Bay Area like Seablite, Jeanines, Chime School and The Umbrellas. That Bay Area scene is one of the things they draw on for their sound, alongside the Sarah Records bands of the eighties and early nineties and the Glasgow guitar scene — from Belle & Sebastian to The Yummy Fur, The Delgados and early Primal Scream.
The lineup around Laurence brings together a few other names from the local scene: singer and keyboardist Helen Whale of Lines of Flight, guitarist Simon Guild back from his Boyracer days, drummer Dave Shields and bassist Lee Laverack. The night is a hometown celebration of that first 7-inch, so you'll hear the new material live on the same night it's out.
