Free six-week ukulele course for beginners and improvers at Leeds Central Library, with instruments and books provided.
Leeds Central Library is running a six-week ukulele course in partnership with Vera Media, with sessions held every Wednesday morning from 2 September to 2 December 2026. It's pitched as a fun, friendly way to discover the joy of making music, and the ukulele is presented as an accessible instrument for anyone wanting to learn to play.
Over the six weeks, beginners and improvers pick up basic chords, simple strumming patterns and how to play easy songs, alongside rhythm, timing and foundational musical concepts, all in a relaxed and encouraging environment. The library provides ukuleles for the sessions, and they also lend supporting books and instruments for free, so you don't need to own one to get started. It's a low-pressure way to get a handle on the basics without having to invest in your own gear first.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Leeds and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Places aren't automatic, though: anyone wanting to join must sign up to enrol within the first three weeks of the course. If you've been thinking about picking up an instrument but weren't sure where to start, this is a good place to do it. The sessions run from 10am to 12pm every Wednesday, and they're held in The Music Library on the first floor of Leeds Central Library, Calverley Street, LS1 3AB. Entry is free.
