Two Shell (DJ Set)

Two Shell are playing a DJ set at Belgrave Music Hall on Friday 13 November, presented by Super Friendz Presents x Natural Selection. It's a late one, with doors opening at 11pm.

If you've come across them recently, you'll know they're one of the more elusive names in British electronic music. They're a London duo who first appeared in 2019 on Livity Sound, the Bristol label known for sharp angles, metallic textures and dusky shadows. Back then, their sound was lean and austere, a stripped-back take on contemporary UK bass that fit right in with the label's mood. Since their acclaimed 2024 debut, though, things have opened up. The music has grown more colourful, awash in giddy UK garage rhythms, hiccupping R&B snippets and unusually chipper major-key synths, with a particular fondness for big, attention-grabbing samples. They release on their own label, Mainframe Audio.

For years, the conversation around them had as much to do with who they were as with what they were making. Their obscured identities and elaborate misdirection have earned them comparisons to tricksters like the KLF, while critics have spoken of them alongside rave forebears such as Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk and Justice. It's that same spirit of keeping people guessing that still runs through their work, even as the sound has shifted from the shadows of their early days towards something brighter and more dancefloor-ready.

This is a DJ set rather than a live band performance, so it's all about the mix. Tickets are £22, VAT included, and the night gets going late, with doors at 11pm at Belgrave Music Hall, 1-1A Cross Belgrave St, Leeds.
