Unscripted stand-up show where Antony Vila turns the audience's stories and quirks into a unique, two-hour show.
The Stand-up Experience comes to Wavio Room on Thursday 5 November, with Antony Vila taking the stage. It's not a scripted set in the usual sense; the whole thing is built around the audience, which is why it's billed as 'Eddie Izzard meets Willy Wonka'. Vila works live with the room, taking the stories, quirks and unexpected answers that come out of the crowd and turning them into a show that could only happen that night. There are callbacks throughout, and because so much depends on who's in the room, no two performances are the same.
That's the core of it: the material doesn't come from a notebook, but from the people sitting in front of him. If you've seen a lot of stand-up, you know the difference between a comic who asks a few questions to break the ice and one who actually lets the answers steer the night. This is the latter. The stories and the jokes grow out of the conversation, so the evening changes depending on who's there and what they're saying.

It's a long one, too. The show runs for around two hours, so it's a full night rather than a quick stop. Seating is unreserved, and it's for ages 18 and over. Doors open at 8:00pm and the show starts at 8:30pm, at Wavio Room, 62 New Briggate, Leeds.
