Unscripted, crowd-fuelled stand-up show where the comic works live with the audience to create a unique performance each night.
The Stand-up Experience is back at Wavio Room on Thursday 3 December, with Antony Vila taking the stage. If you've seen it before, you know the drill, but it's worth spelling out for anyone who hasn't: this isn't a standard stand-up set. There's no written script to fall back on. Instead, Vila works live with the room, taking the stories, quirks and unexpected answers that come out of the crowd and turning them into the show itself. It's unscripted, crowd-fuelled comedy, which means no two nights ever end up the same.
It's a bit of a gamble as a format, and that's where the appeal is. The whole thing is built around the people in the room rather than a pre-planned routine, so the night you get depends entirely on who's there and what they're talking about. The show is pitched as 'Imagine Eddie Izzard meets Willy Wonka', and the reviews from people who've been along tend to focus on the improvisation. If you're the kind of person who prefers a tight, polished hour of jokes, this is the opposite of that — it's more about watching a comic think on his feet and build something from scratch in front of you.

On the practical side, it's an 18+ night, so you'll need to be of age to get in. Seating is unreserved, so there's no need to rush for a particular spot. If you're a student, there's a discount available at the door — just make sure you've got a current institutional student card, a Student Beans ID or a UNiDAYS ID on you to claim it. Doors open at 8:00pm, and the show gets going at 8:30pm, so you've got plenty of time to get settled before Vila starts working the room. You'll find Wavio Room at 62 New Briggate in Leeds.
