Musical puppet show by LAStheatre, a stage adaptation of the children's book 'The Littlest Yak' about a little yak who learns to love herself.
The Littlest Yak comes to The Carriageworks Theatre on Saturday 24 October, with a second performance on Sunday 25 October. It's a musical stage adaptation of the award-winning children's book by Lu Fraser, illustrated by Kate Hindley, and brought to the stage by the Kent-based company LAStheatre.
The story is set in the heart of the Himalayas and follows Gertie, a little yak with the curliest, whirliest wool and the grippiest of hooves. She's in a rush to grow up and be just like the Big Yaks, only to discover there are things only a Gertie can do. It's billed as a rollicking, heart-warming tale of self-acceptance for all the family, told with beautiful puppets and catchy tunes. The show runs about 45 minutes and is recommended for ages 3 and up, so it's a good length for younger ones who might struggle with a full evening.
LAStheatre has a bit of a reputation for this kind of thing. Their productions have been described as 'fascinating' by the BBC, 'spellbinding' by the Manchester Evening News, 'powerful' by The Scotsman, 'atmospheric' by The Herald, and 'thrillingly immediate' by the FT. This particular show also picked up four OffWestEnd Award nominations, including Best Performance, Writing, Music, and Design.
