Live music quiz night led by Jacob Savage, with a full band playing familiar pop songs in unexpected ways.
The Big Fat Domino Live Music Quiz is at The Domino Club on Tuesday 8 December, with doors opening at 6:00pm and the quiz starting at 7:00pm. It's led by Jacob Savage, who runs the whole thing with a full band of players behind him.
It's not your usual pub quiz. The band takes familiar pop songs and plays them in ways you wouldn't expect, and it's your listening skills that get tested. A Kanye West track reimagined in the style of Sergei Rachmaninoff, rock songs sung with every other word, or David Bowie's Life On Mars played blindfolded — that's the kind of thing you'll be trying to identify. There's also a kazoo round. It's as much a gig as it is a quiz, and the band is there to play through the night rather than just provide the clips.
The Domino Club sits in the basement of a Grade II listed building on Grand Arcade, and it's a standing room venue with a small number of bookable tables and a cocktail bar. It's strictly over-18s, and because it's in a basement, there's no accessible entrance. The club usually programmes live music from Wednesday to Sunday — mostly funk, soul, blues and jazz — with special events on Tuesdays and a jazz jam on the first Sunday of each month. Regular Friday and Saturday nights carry a £9 door charge, while the rest of the week is pay-as-you-feel, with all the money going to the musicians.
